Improving veterans’ health care

The VA MISSION Act went into effect on June 6, 2019. The new law, which I proudly supported, was designed to eliminate red tape so veterans have reliable, timely access to high quality care. It encourages the VA and local health care providers to work together to provide the best possible care to our veterans.

In August, I toured VA clinics in Havre and Anaconda, and talked with providers. I also held round tables with veterans in Havre, Anaconda, and Butte to talk about issues important to them, including health care.

I proudly supported the VA MISSION Act, and I want to ensure Montana veterans receive the care they’ve earned and deserve. If you are a veteran, I want to hear about your experiences receiving care through the VA, particularly with the VA MISSION Act now in effect. Please contact any of my offices.

Honoring our Cadet Nurses

I recently introduced bipartisan legislation to honor Cadet Nurses who served in World War II.

They stepped up when our country desperately needed them. With America facing a nursing shortage, they helped contribute to our victories in World War II.

But the federal government hasn’t given them the recognition they deserve.

This bipartisan bill honors their rich legacy and recognizes the sacrifices they made in service to our country. Further, it distinguished Cadet Nurses as honorary veterans and provides them burial privileges.

I recently joined colleagues to include the bill in the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Recognizing Montana veterans

In August, I recognized six Montana veterans with the Montana Congressional Veteran Commendation Award.

These men and women served our country selflessly and honorably before they came home to serve their communities.
