One of rovingreporter.org’s most popular contributors is Randy May. He does a 4:00 a.m. Sunrise column. For those, who haven’t followed it, Scout was his beloved dog who died of seizures in 2017 while cradled in Randy’s arms. Randy buried Scout next to his flag pole with a tombstone and 2 beautiful flower pots. He, later, saved Girl Scout from a small kennel at a Mississippi dog pound. Kit is the family’s cat. Scout, Girl Scout and Kit are his “good friends”.

As a Vietnam, Purple Heart survivor, who received a Unit Citation for Bravery, he doesn’t mince words and, usually, believes that brevity is the secret to good writing. So, while this July 2018, posting is much longer than usual, it is wonderfully heartfelt.

“Enjoying the company of good friends and a 4 AM sky, it is moonless and cloudy enough to be mostly starless. The flag hangs limp, but is post-rain cool, making it very pleasant. Girl Scout has done some custom landscaping at Scout’s grave. She dug the bulbs out of the flower pots. And, after shaking the dirt all over me, is laying at my feet, happily munching away on her new found treasure. Kit is sitting back in the shadows, apparently not in a playful mood. So, why can’t I turn my mind off, once awakened in the middle of the night or in the very early morning? Of course, there is always Vietnam; but, far worse, is the stupidity of the human race … especially “American” (and, I use that term loosely) democrats. How stupid do you have to be to vote for filth like Maxine Walters, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Bennie Thompson, and well, any of them? The socialist, Godless, anti-American, unconstitutional, platform they represent is shoved in your face 24/7 by their propaganda lapdog media, so ignorance is no excuse. Oh, hell, sleep is overrated. I can rant all day and never fix even one. There is no cure for stupid. Oops, did I just mix the physical world with the beauty of a 4 AM sky? So sorry. Love you, Scout. I will never amount to much as a writer, cause I hate to offend people, and the truth will offend them every time.”
