Hillary and her 2010 Uranium One deal with Russia are back in the news.  Some might remember that Rosatom (a section of the Russia Military Industrial Complex) was part of then Secretary of State Hillary’s round-about scheme to give 20% of US uranium interests to Russia.  It should be noted that this scheme was concocted and executed under Obama’s leadership, or lack there-of.   Mrs. Clinton was rewarded for her efforts with a $500,000 speaking fee in Moscow for husband Bill and more than $140-million added to the Clinton Foundation’s coffers.  Mainstream Media made little of the arrangement then and little to nothing of it now.
Rosatom is Putin’s “pet” government-owned, nuclear weapons research center.  On Thursday, August 8, 2019, five of Russia’s best nuclear engineers were killed in an explosion there while testing a “nuclear isotope power source” for a “new” rocket engine.  Rosatom director Alexei Likhacheve praised the scientists as “true heroes” and said that “further work on new weapons will be the best tribute to them”.
Russia’s Defense Ministry insisted that no radiation had been released,  but terrified residents of the area scrambled to buy iodide, which helps limit radiation exposure damage.  Neither the Defense Ministry, nor Rosatom mentioned the type of rocket that exploded, explaining only that it contained a “liquid propellant”.  For unstated reasons, Russia immediately closed part of Dvina Bay on the White Sea to shipping for a month.  Speculation is that the reason could be an attempt to prevent outsiders from recovering missile debris.
Over the years, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has promised to get to the bottom of the Uranium One transaction.  One would hope this incident will motivate him in that ambition.
