What’s new?

As we commemorate Flag Day, I am proud to introduce a resolution to amend the constitution to prohibit the burning of the American flag.

I have championed this cause because I believe flag burning is conduct that dishonors the sacrifice of all who fought and died in protection of what our flag represents.

Why it matters.

The American flag has been a symbol of hope and freedom for centuries and ought to be respected. Our nation’s flag must be set apart as a protected symbol worthy of honor. And as the Department of Montana Veterans of Foreign Wars proclaimed: “The U.S. flag should be protected by the U.S. Constitution in the name of all veterans that gave their lives to protect it.” I wholeheartedly agree.

What’s next?

I will continue to work with veterans’ organizations and my congressional colleagues, including President Trump, to build support for my constitutional amendment. Passing it would honor our veterans by protecting the flag they served under.

Best Wishes,
