January 2019:
January 9th- met with General Robert Brown, Commander of the U.S. Army Pacific to discuss the status of Montana’s forward-deployed troops overseas and the readiness of Montana’s Army Guard and Reserve units.
January 14th- joined with Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) in introducing S.114. This bill allows the National Guard and Reserves to continue training during a government shutdown.
January 16th- introduced S.164, The Tricare Reserve Improvement Act. This allows all Guardsmen and Reservists to participate in Tricare Reserve Select (TRS). TRS is health insurance for those in the military.
– met with Dr. Mark Esper, the 23rd Secretary of the U.S. Army about the status of Montana’s forward-deployed troops overseas and the readiness of Montana’s Army Guard and Reserve units.
January 17th- joined with Senator John Hoeven in introducing S.Res.24. This resolution supports a robust and modern ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) force which maximizes the value of our nuclear triad. The nuclear triad consists of land-launched nuclear missiles, nuclear submarines, and aircraft with nuclear bombs and missiles.
January 29th-the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals granted Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans (see our story under Veterans) the same presumption of exposure as shore-based veterans. Senator Daines has fought this disparity since 2015.
January 30th-met with Major General Matt Quinn, the Adjutant General of the Montana National Guard about the readiness of Montana’s Army Guard and Reserve units.
January 31st- joined with Senator Marco Rubio’s S.153, which supports Veterans in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Careers Act by requiring the National Science Foundation to reach out to transitioning veterans.
