What’s New:
I introduced a bill to protect the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners. My bill would reform the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) to protect travelers who are transporting firearms across state lines.
Why It Matters:
Law abiding gun owners traveling with their firearms have been harassed with arrests and prosecutions simply for traveling through anti-gun states.
For example, Greg Revell, a Utah resident, was flying to Pennsylvania, and a delayed connection flight caused him to stay overnight in New Jersey. The next morning, Greg went to recheck his baggage, declaring his unloaded handgun to the counter agent. Police officers quickly arrested Revell for illegal possession of a handgun and ammunition under New Jersey Law. Greg was booked into jail for three days until he could post his bail. Greg filed a civil suit but the court said FOPA currently doesn’t protect travelers. That’s why I introduced my bill.
My bill strengthens and updates FOPA to protect law abiding citizens like Greg and their Second Amendment rights to travel safely with legally owned firearms.
