Under federal law, the National Voter Registration Act, states must make “a reasonable effort” to remove from voting rolls “the names of ineligible voters” who have been disqualified from voting due to death or failure to provide notification of change of residence. After New York’s Board of Elections was notified that they are in violation of the NVRA and to immediately remove the ineligible ballots, what it did not do is staggering. Dirty voter rolls matter. So, okay, NY complied, resulting as such:
Registered Voters Number Removed
New York City 1.7 million 2
Brooklyn 1.7 million 0
Queens 1.3 million 0
Staten Island 344,000 0
Bronx 867,000 1
Hmmm … only 3 dead people? No one moving in or out of the five boroughs? No non-residents? Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, said, “New York City’s Board of Elections is a national disgrace. The idea that it can manage an entirely new list of noncitizen voters, when it can’t even keep ineligible voters off its current list under federal law, is absurd.” Heaven forbid that Trump and other Republicans suggest that there were dirty voter rolls all over the country!
