What’s New:
This week I introduced the St. Mary’s Reinvestment Act to protect jobs and our way of life in Montana. My bipartisan legislation with Senator Tester and Congressman Gianforte would reduce the local cost-share for the St. Mary’s Milk River Project. Under current law, local users are responsible for 74%, which is unaffordable for these rural communities.
Why it Matters:
Authorized by Congress in 1905, the Milk River Project is one of the oldest Bureau of Reclamation projects, and rehabilitation and modernization is desperately needed. It provides clean drinking water to approximately 18,000 Montanan’s and irrigates more than 120,000 acres.
What’s Next:
As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over Bureau of Reclamation projects, I will work to pass this legislation and continue to lead the fight to ensure Montanans have access to a clean, reliable water supply.
Best Wishes,
Steve Daines
