What’s New:
This week I joined a bipartisan group of senators in introducing legislation to reduce taxes on Gold Star families. These families have lost a loved one while serving in the military, and they should not be forced to pay burdensome taxes.
Why it Matters:
Due to a drafting mistake, the survivor benefits of Gold Star families are currently being taxed at a higher rate than intended. The bipartisan bill fixes this problem and would protect family members of brave men and women from unnecessary taxes.
What’s Next:
I’m glad so many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle are supporting this commonsense cause. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, I will continue to do everything I can to pass this legislation into law.
