HELENA, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today signed two critical bills that will strengthen the security of our elections and ensure Montana is a national leader in free and fair elections.
Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen – who campaigned on fixing these issues and received more votes than any other candidate on the ballot in Montana – strongly supported both bills as they moved through the legislative process.
With House Bill 176, sponsored by Representative Sharon Greef, being signed into law, Montana will join 29 other states in requiring voters to be registered to vote before Election Day.
Over half of the Country already manage their elections this way. This commonsense legislation will go a long way in upholding Montana’s strong reputation for voter integrity and making Montana a national leader in free and fair elections.
Senate Bill 169, sponsored by Senator Mike Cuffe, will ensure our elections are safe and secure by enacting better identification requirements for voters.
