HELENA, Mont. – BREAKING: Governor Greg Gianforte has fulfilled another campaign promise by banning sanctuary cities in Montana.
Governor Greg Gianforte today signed House Bill 200, sponsored by Representative Kenneth Holmlund, which prohibits state agencies and local governments from establishing sanctuary cities in Montana.
MTGOP Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement in response:
“Candidate Gianforte promised that sanctuary cities would have no place in Montana under his administration, and with the help of Republican legislators in Helena, Governor Gianforte kept that promise by banning sanctuary cities,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Sanctuary cities inherently defy the rule of law and fly in the face of the overwhelming majority of Montanans who rejected Democrats’ push for sanctuary cities in November. As the Biden border crisis continues spiraling out of control and DC Democrats continue trying to force their far-left policies on the entire country, the signing of House Bill 200 could not have come at a better time for Montana.”
While Montana’s senior Senator Jon Tester was busy cowering to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Republicans in Helena were taking the bold actions necessary to uphold the rule of law and fight back against DC Democrats’ radical agenda of funding sanctuary cities and sending stimulus checks to illegal immigrants.
The signing of HB 200 is just the latest example of promises made, promises kept under Governor Greg Gianforte.
