Combating human trafficking
Last week, I had the privilege of standing with community members at Billings 2nd Annual Red Sand Project to continue fighting against human trafficking. The Red Sand Project seeks to raise awareness for overlooked populations, including indigenous people, which are most at risk of being enslaved. The project invites Montanans, and Americans across the nation, to fill a sidewalk crack with red sand. The red sand represents the 40.3 million people living as slaves who have fallen through the cracks in society.
As a longtime advocate against the evil of human trafficking, I have cosponsored several pieces of bipartisan legislation to help these victims of modern-day slavery. S. 1693, the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act was signed into law in 2018 and S. 178, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act in 2015. Just last month, I cosponsored S. 1164, the Keeping Infants Domestically Safe (KIDS) Act of 2019 which makes it illegal to sell a child for any purpose.
Please watch the above video which highlights my support of the Red Sand Project and my continued commitment to fighting to end human trafficking.
