KEY VETERANS’ LEGISLATION • I recently introduced S. 2407, the Financial Refuge for Every Elderly (FREE) Veteran Act, to punish those responsible for taking advantage of Montana’s veterans. Check out KULR8 Billings’ coverage of the bill HERE. I will continue fighting to get this bill across the finish line and ensure that veterans have the financial security they deserve. A MONTH WITH MONTANA VETERANS • During August, I traveled across Montana to meet with Veterans and their families. I wanted to hear firsthand about their experiences and concerns. Also, I met with defense industry leaders that are bringing jobs to Montana while keeping our country safe. SUPPORTING THE MILITARY, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES • On August 5th, I had the opportunity to speak to the Marine Corps League during their 96th National Convention in Billings. Founded in 1923, this non-political organization promotes the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps and the ideals of American freedom and democracy.
• On August 9th, I spoke to the Scobey Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 173 during their 100thAnniversary. During this event I presented the Post with an American Flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in their honor. Established in 1919, the Scobey VFW Post 173 was the first VFW Post established in Montana to support service-connected disabled veterans. • On August 26th, I traveled to Fort Harrison to meet with Dr. Judy Hayman, the new Montana VA Director. We discussed current impacts of the VA MISSION Act. Dr. Hayman plans to address the challenges of retaining qualified medical providers and lowering the wait times for access to emergency services.
• On August 26th, I also received an update on the F-35 Lightning fighter aircraft and its positive impacts on the Montana economy. This fifth-generation aircraft will ensure our warfighters have the capability needed to keep our country safe while contributing $16 million annually to Montana’s economy Best Wishes, Steve Daines |
