On March 14, 2024, Sen. Steve Daines introduced the Laken Riley Act to Senate. Previously, it passed in the House last week with a bi-partisan vote of 251-170. Schumer has not brought it to the floor. The bill would require ICE to detain illegal immigrants who commit crimes, ie. Theft, burglary, larceny or shoplifting offenses and would mandate that these illegals be detained until they are removed from the U.S. so they cannot commit additional crimes.
Daines said, “The brutal murder of Laken Riley is a tragic reminder of the devastating results of Biden’s open border policies. Our families and communities are not safe as long as criminals are willfully released back to the streets instead of being deported. This is a nightmare turned reality and we must do something before more families face these horrific consequences.”
The entirety of the bill is available at CONGRESS.GOV as H.R. 7511. It’s short and to the point. It will be interesting to see (1) how long it takes Schumer to bring it to the Senate floor and (2) which Democrats vote against it. Almost every Democrat, including Jon Tester (202-224-2644), has voted with Schumer for “open borders” … even the disastrous US/MX one! Nothing ever changes their minds on that sick stance.
