HELENA, Mont. – ICYMI: Governor Greg Gianforte yesterday signed House Bill 102 into law. The new law expands Montanans’ gun rights and makes Montana a safer place to live.
“Every law-abiding Montanan should be able to defend themselves and their loved ones. That’s why today, I’m signing H.B. 102 into law,” Governor Greg Gianforte said before signing the bill.
H.B. 102 allows Montanans to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense without written authorization from the government, simplifies a confusing patchwork of gun laws in our state, eliminates government-mandated places where only criminals are armed, and modernizes Montana’s outdated carry laws to reflect safe carrying of firearms in the 21st century.
After Montana Republicans vowed to defend your 2nd Amendment Rights relentlessly, the passage of H.B. 102 into law is the latest example of Republican leadership delivering a big win for all Montana gun owners.
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Seth Berglee (R-Joliet), released the following statement in response:
“House Bill 102 ensures that law-abiding Montanans’ right to self-defense is protected from state barriers. This legislation allows concealed carry without a permit in the same places that open carry is currently allowed, which is the safer modern way of carrying firearms. I thank Governor Gianforte for signing this Republican priority bill into law.”
Attorney General Austin Knudsen issued the following statement after Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 102 into law:
