Greg’s Treasure State Update

Lowering prescription drug prices

Too many Montanans struggle to pay for the prescription drugs they need. They shouldn’t have to walk away from the pharmacy counter, because they can’t afford their medications.

We’re making progress to bring down prescription drug prices.

A few weeks ago, the House passed my bipartisan bill, H.R. 1781, to increase transparency in the drug pricing process and lower prescription drug prices.

And in September, I introduced a bipartisan bill to boost the use of biosimilar drugs, which are more affordable than biologics. With increased use of biosimilars, patients will see lower out-of-pocket costs for the medications they need.

Ending surprise billing

Too often, Montanans check their mail and find an unexpected, outrageous bill for health care.

In June, I heard from a woman in Ekalaka who received a $70,000 bill from a small Montana hospital. She had no idea how to handle the situation or get it resolved. This has to stop.

I recently voted to pass the bipartisan No Surprises Act out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The bill prohibits surprise medical billing, holds patients harmless in emergency situations, and provides a process to resolve payment disputes between providers and insurers.

We need to ensure that all patients, who are trying in good faith to receive care and pay their bills, are not victimized when providers and insurers can’t agree.

Preventing suicide

Our nation and state face a tragic epidemic of suicide.

This is why I am proud to have introduced a bipartisan bill to create a universal telephone number as the National Suicide Hotline.

The legislation designates “9-8-8” as the universal telephone number for the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system, which operates through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Veteran’s Crisis Line.

This bipartisan bill provides an essential resource for anyone facing a mental health crisis and helps our communities grow healthier and stronger.
