Pressing FCC Chairman Pai to update broadband maps at a recent oversight hearing.

What’s New:

I recently pushed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on the need to stop just talking about rural broadband and the race to 5G and actually start taking action. In an oversight hearing with FCC Chairman Pai, I pressed the need to have updated broadband maps so that our unserved rural areas in Montana won’t get overlooked when expanding broadband access. I also stressed the need to open up more mid-band spectrum for 5G technology. Other countries are already way ahead of us and we need to start moving quickly.

Why It Matters:

Access to broadband service is essential for our rural communities to participate in today’s connected world. Access to foreign and domestic markets, essential information, precision agriculture technology, and emergency services depends on a reliable connection to fast broadband services. Further, in order for 5G technology to expand in Montana and the U.S. to capitalize on new job growth, we need more access to spectrum. If the FCC does not take action quickly on both of these issues Montanans will lose out.

What’s Next:

I will continue to press the FCC and Congress on broadband and 5G solutions such as updated maps opening up more spectrum for 5G. Its time we stop just talking and start implementing solutions.
Best Wishes,
