Montanans received an average 22% tax cut in 2018.

Top Story – A Tax Cut for nearly everyone

Tax Day is understandably dreaded. After all, it’s a reminder of how much of your hard-earned money goes from your wallet to Washington.

This year, however, Montanans have some news worth celebrating. According to independent research from H&R Block, the people of Montana received an average 22% tax cut in 2018. This was the result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that I supported.

A 22% reduction in federal taxes resulted in higher take-home pay for hard-working Montanan families, helping many across our state make ends meet.

My new bills to help expecting Moms and small businesses

I recently introduced legislation to help pregnant moms prepare for their newborn’s arrival by allowing them to claim the Child Tax Credit for their unborn children. From stocking up on diapers to taking time off work for their child’s prenatal care, expecting parents begin providing for their child as soon as they learn they are having a baby. My bill will put more money in their pocketbooks as they do.

I also introduced a bill to help Main Street businesses in Montana continue to create jobs and flourish by making permanent an important tax deduction. During debate on the Tax Cuts and Jobs ActI championed the effort to make sure small businesses in Montana are on equal tax footing as corporations. Now I’m fighting to ensure this level playing field continues.

Our economy remains hot

The Jobs Report for March showed continued strong job creation, very low unemployment, and sustained growth in wages. Roughly 5 million jobs have been created since January 2017!

Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – Did you Know?

One of the many reasons I supported the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is that it reduced taxes on small craft breweries in Montana and across our country. According to the Montana Brewers Association, this tax relief is helping Montana’s 75 small breweries invest in new workers and expand their operations. I’m now helping to lead the effort to make this tax relief permanent.
